This Butterfly was the “Obsidian Butterfly” or “Clawed Butterfly” - other names for Itzpapalotl. Itzpapalotl was a frightening earth goddess that devoured humans during the solar eclipse, who could appear in form of a beautiful seductive woman or a terrifying goddess with a skeletal head and butterfly wings with stone blades. The Underworld was made of nine layers, Earth being the first also holding the entrance.
